The duration of the dual degree course in nursing is 3 years. After the completion of the same, the candidates automatically have the status of a registered nurse in Germany. The course is a general nursing course. With the degree the candidate can work everywhere, meaning in medical facilities to take care of aged citizens as well as in general hospitals. With regard to the curriculum, the generalist vocational degree course combines elements in geriatric care, healthcare and nursing as well as healthcare and children's nursing whereby the graduate completes the program with the professional title of "nursing specialist". The candidates also have the option to opt for further studies after the completion of the course for example with the goal to specialize in a particular domain such as child care, surgical care or emergency care.
The medical facilities for aged citizens care which are the practical training partners for the program will provide the students with a monthly scholarship to cover all the costs during the time of their education which amounts to 940-1200 € per month in the first year, 1000-1250 € per month in the second year and 1100-1300 € per month in the third year of training. After the successful graduation from the program each participant is guaranteed placement with the training partner or another hospital/ facility for medical care of aged citizens in Germany.
